How to choose a breeder...well there are many things to consider and having a "flashy" website isn't by any means the most important, but they are NICE to look at!! Look at a breeder's dogs, consider the looks of the bully, the temperament and ask about health clearances...showing and champions are great, but not every dog with a championship should be bred and vice versa.
You must find a breeder you can talk too, remember this relationship should last the lifetime of the puppy and if you are lucky you will even gain a friend! Please also check on the Bullmastiff Fanciers of Canada site for a list of breeders. www.bmfc.ca
You should ask to see the parents of the pup, now not everyone has the father on site and also remember right after babies may NOT be the best time to see the parents and pups all together, there is the instinct to protect babies, and there are health concerns too, it is not good to have too many people around and certainly not handling the pups. Around 6 weeks this is a much better time to ask to see the pups and other family members. If you can, see where the dogs live, watch how they get along with each other and with the pups. Also many breeders will send weekly updates of the pups from birth to you.
I have been lucky to have mentors in the breed and to have friends too. I will be listing a few breeders here, now that does not mean I don't think the breeders I haven't listed aren't good, I am just listing breeders I know and have worked with. There are many breeders across Canada and the USA that are fabulous but I don't know well. Do your research, talk to different people and see what their goals are and see how they fit with yours. For example if you don't have any interest in showing but the breeder you are looking at wants all their dogs to be shown, you MUST discuss this right away and if you need to, walk away. You can't get angry with the breeder when in 7 months they want the pup entered in a weekend show 3 hours from your home when you agreed to this already! And if you have agreed, what is the arrangement, they look after the dog for the weekend? You bring the dog? Who pays the entry costs? Who pays for the handling, who's handling? Etc, etc, etc.
Here is my list of breeders and from their site they too will have links to other breeders.
